Brian is our lead artist. He has been with the comic since Volume 1, issue 3. He does layout, draws, inks, designs, and does the art education section on the back cover. He draws all our covers, creates the overall graphic design for the comic and oversees many aspects of production. Molly and I don’t know how we’d do this without Brian. He’s amazing. Pretty soon, he might be your art teacher…if you’re lucky. In addition to being a very talented artist, he’s about to graduate from Kendall with a degree in art education.
I have been drawing ever since I can remember. My mom figured out pretty quickly that if she left me alone with any kind of mark-making utensil and a blank surface that nothing was safe from my scribblings. Of course that’s all they were, scribblings. Good thing that I improved or the pages of Wireman might be filled with eight-legged stick figures.
My interest in comic books developed almost as early as my love of drawing. I remember my dad used to take me down to the local newstand every Sunday where he would let me pick out one comic book. These comics inspired me to start drawing comics of my own. By the age of nine I had completed three comics featuring characters I made up named Kip, Cop, and Bop. I was so proud of my creations that I sent them to one of my favorite comic book artists at the time, Don Rosa of the Uncle $crooge series. It took a long time but he eventually wrote back to me with words of encouragement and a personalized original drawing! Ever since then I have been working on comic books and illustrations of my own. The only two things that have changed since those early years are, 1) I’ve gotten better at drawing, and 2) I no longer wear diapers.
